この本のタイトルにある「トリル」とは、コオロギやバッタ、セミなどの昆虫が出す音のことです。
夏、空気は熱と湿気とこの音で膨れ上がります。その身体性は鼓膜を貫き、その妖気は葉で揺らめきます。草の上に寝そべって静かに耳を傾けることができます。
しかし、「トリルを追う 」というのは 「スリルを追う 」という意味に聞こえます。狩りのスリルを味わうために、親子で蝶々ネットを持って自然に出かけます。カラフルで懐かしい夏のおもちゃとしてロマンチックに表現される蝶々ネットは、駆除のための道具でもあります。自然を植民地化し、小さな種を支配したいという人間の欲望を意味しています。子供でさえ残酷な捕食者の本能を持っているのです。
私たちが絶滅の時代に生きているという自覚のなさに圧倒されます。人間の傲慢さに残念です。怪我をした蝶がかわいそうです。ペットとして飼わざるを得なかったカブトムシを解放してあげたいです。
この本では、地に近づきより優しい視点を持つよう誘ます。公園でボールを追いかけ、残っている種を数え、昆虫たちを放っておき、鳴き声を聞かせます。

First of all, it’s a book about summer, shot last year on expired film. Photos are paired like in a calendar, maybe because all days are like twins. Also includes pattern designs derived from my hand drawing. If you want to know my deeper thoughts, read further.

The “trill” of my book refers to the sound that insects like crickets, grasshoppers, and cicadas produce - a repetitive pulse vibrating too fast to perceive its distinct notes.
In the summer, the air swells with heat, humidity, and this sound. Its physicality pierces the eardrum, its specter shimmers with leaves. One can lie on the grass peacefully and listen; that’s what I mean by chasing and grooving in the trill.
“Chasing the trill” sounds like “Chasing the thrill”, however. For the thrill of the hunt, parents and kids grab the insect nets and head out. Romanticized as colorful and nostalgic summer toys, these nets are also tools for extermination. They signify a human desire to colonize nature, to dominate over smaller species. Even children possess a cruel predator’s instinct.
I am overwhelmed by the lack of awareness that we live in the age of extinction. And I feel sad for every snapped butterfly and Kabuto mushi forced to become a pet.
With this book, I invite you to ground down and take a gentler perspective. Chase a ball in the park, count the species remaining, and water the flowers. Leave those insects alone, let their trills ring free.
