This is a simple work shot at my neighborhood park in two days. I am used to taking progress photos and preparing construction site reports for my day job. This site is of a tree that fell into the middle of a playground. これは2日間に近所の公園で撮影した簡単なZineです。 私は仕事で工事現場の進行写真を取り報告書を作成するのは多いです。この現場は、工事現場ではなく公園の遊び場の中に倒れた木のものです。

We received stories, puzzles, photographs, drawings, and poems. We translated all the texts (except poems) into English or Japanese, compiled them into a volume, and made the zine at the HEADQUARTERS studio. The publication was revealed during the Tokyo Art Book Fair 2024 at RYTOJ booth. It contains a few monochrome photos and handwritten texts too, but they are of the same effort to observe and understand (myself or others) through drawing, whether it was just a mechanical or more intentional and logical act. All the material is from 2023-2024. Most of the drawings are close to their original size. It is an introspective and a little bit dark zine. I did not attempt to make text pieces comrehensible or form a story. Feel free to read them as a pattern. これはドローイング中心の作品であります。 モノクロームの写真や手書きの文章も少し含まれていますが、それらは、ただ機械的に、あるいはより意図的で論理的な行為であろうと、ドローイングを通して観察し理解しようとする同じ努力の結晶であります。 資料はすべて2023年から2024年にかけてのものです。多くのドローイングは原寸に近いサイズです｡ これは少し暗い雰囲気のZINEです。 手書き文章を理解しやすくしたり、ストーリーを形成しようとはしていなかったので、模様として思ってもかまいません。

Photos are quick and blurry, some negatives got affected by time, colors look funny. They were all taken during my first year in Japan, which I spent as an exchange student living in Odaiba. I photographed quite a lot that year to befriend my new home. Some of my ink drawings from that year are interlaced between the pages. 最近、古い写真フィルムをデジタル化し始めて、こんなことを発見した。 写真は早くてぼやけていて、ネガは時間の影響を受けて色がおかしくなっているものもある。 これらはすべて、留学生としてお台場に住んでいた、日本での最初の年に撮影したものだ。新しい場所を仲良くなるために、かなりたくさん写真を撮った。 zineを纏めながら、その年に描いた墨ドローイングもページの間に挟んでだ。

Getting Feet Wet Handmade book in softcover Size 205x280mm 104 pages Edition of 20 copies Photographed between 2022~2024 Photos, design and text: Viktorija Makauskaitė Binding and silkscreen support: kteam/HEADQUARTERS Kamakura Printed with Xerox Self Published, 2024, Tokyo This book contains a collection of photos of bad weather: rains, gales, dust storms, etc. All of them I took in my neighborhood park, here in Tokyo. The project was shot on film, using simple photographic techniques and only collaborating with natural forces for the special effects. I wanted to make a book that would feel quite immersive, like listening to an endless music track. A book, that would be a little bit intense but not too dramatic. It’s bout a place that seems homey and familiar as if you've been here too. You’ve seen those ducks and pigeons, and concrete fences imitating wood, brown painted light posts, and purposeless steel boxes in the ponds. There would be nothing new to discover but a change of the seasons in a flip. And you could randomly open the pages from the start, end, or at a quarter, it would not matter so much - wherever you entered, you would end up in a puddle. It is an intimate work (getting one’s feet wet) about losing oneself in a downpour and becoming a part of it.

道路騒音に触発され、2014-2023年の間に自宅のバルコニーから撮影した写真集です。 木々や土の山、石など、お寺、つまり、通常に安定した、固い物体が、いかに簡単に動かせるかを観察するのは、興味深いことだと思いました。 This zine was inspired by the sounds of my street. It’s also a reflection about things continuously moving, and being transported from one place to another. 日々描き続けているドローイングを「ウォーキング」をテーマに、写真では伝わりにくい世界観も盛り込みまとめています。街を散策する中で目にする都市景観の断片、超高層ビルの庭園、犬と散歩する人、鳥たちや雑草に潜む生き物…私の視点を通して街の息遣いが見えてくるようです。画材には、長年好んできた墨を使用し、その不均一なインクの線の中に空想と思考が交錯し広がっていきます。一連のドローイングは一見すると物語のようでありながら、私の日常の中で生まれた無作為なイメージの集積です。2010年頃のドローイングに始まり、この作品集のために2枚の作品を描き下ろしています。 My first self-published work is a reflection on my favored pastime - walking. The pages are inhabited by the fragments of an urban landscape, skyscraper gardens, dog walkers, birds, and other creatures that hide among the weeds. Fantasy and thoughts mingle in sometime, and get scattered among the disobedient lines of ink - my beloved artistic media for many years.
